Life does not have a universal measuring tool; so create yours and use it.

Looking at people and comparing yourself with them will not make you better but bitter. If you know the sort of load the chameleon carries, you wouldn’t ask why it takes those gentle strides. So, enjoy what you have and be grateful to God for it.

Not all that glitters is gold, live and be happy with what you have, everyone is going through one thing or the other.

Life is one big road with many signs. So when you’re riding through the ruts, don’t complicate your mind. Flee from hate, mischief and jealousy. Don’t bury your thoughts, instead put your vision to reality. Wake up and live. To be alive is to totally and openly participate in the simplicity and elegance of here and now.

Life consists not in holding good cards but in playing those you hold well. Living might mean taking chances but they’re worth taking.

Loving might be a mistake but it’s worth making. Wasting time is worse than wasting money. Some will have more money than others. But we all have twenty four hours in a day. No one can buy more time on earth. Remember, a wasted dollar comes back, it can be earned. But a wasted minute is gone for good. Use your time wisely.

Never Punish Loyal Employees for being Honest

This story we can relate and learn together.

My new boss told me to never be afraid to give feedback. The next Monday morning in a meeting, I happily shared my viewpoint on a new policy. Thereafter, I noticed my boss’s disposition towards me changed. He stopped talking to me. I was shunned. I even felt the effects of this in my monthly performance appraisal, where he noted, I was not supportive of the organization, and I needed to be a better team player. The picture was quite clear – truthful feedback was not appreciated.

Heather, a co-worker approached me and said, “You are new, honest feedback is just lip service, don’t fall for it.” I quickly learned loyalists and sycophants were appreciated, while realists were punished. They built a culture of “yes employees.” I knew I had so much to offer, yet I couldn’t. Six months later, my boss was fired. He made a mistake on a proposal that cost the company its biggest client. This could have been easily avoided if he had just asked for honest input.

Listening is the most powerful skill a leader can master but it requires humility.

“The Emperor’s New Clothes” – Promoting honest feedback

Be Humble. Many people think humility is a weakness, but it actually takes strength. It makes you approachable. The more humble you are, the more team members would be motivated to share their suggestions and recommendations with you. One of the best employee engagement tools is transparency. To be transparent requires two-way communication, therefore, feedback from employees is important. Honesty creates a solid platform to building a relationship of trust and loyalty. Employees want to be heard and they want to be respected.

Listening shows that you care. Additionally when you receive feedback, act upon it. This helps improve employee morale.

PRIDE – The ego must go. The ego blinds us with a false sense of indestructibility, clouds our judgement thus leading to poor decisions and a break down of relationships. It’s not about you. Build a strong team and surround yourself with smart, passionate and highly competent people. Researchers at the University of Michigan and Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in Illinois in one research stated, “flattery and opinion conformity” makes leaders overconfident, resulting in “biased strategic decision making” and an overall disconnect from the execution on the ground.

Developing leadership skills is a lifetime project. It’s too easy, as a leader, to feel like you have to be the one who knows everything. Great leaders recognize that they need to keep learning. Leaders need to be willing to learn and be open to seeking input from both inside and outside their organizations. Feedback allows us and the organization to grow. Additionally, treat everyone you meet with respect, from the janitor to the CEO. Great business tips may come from the most unlikely sources.

” Listening is crucial to gaining a complete understanding of situations. Without this full understanding, one can easily waste everyone’s time by solving the wrong problem or merely addressing a symptom, rather than the root cause.”

Titans as Blackberry, Kodak and Nokia have paid the price for leaders who refused to listen. Their leaders operated in a bubble and engaged in group think. The greater your success, the more you need to stay in touch with fresh opinions and perspectives and welcome honest feedback. Raw truth is needed to make well-informed decisions and steer the organization in the right direction.

As a leader, your job is to encourage others around you to be open and honest without a negative consequence. When employees offer their ideas and differing opinions – be open-minded. Companies that remain strong in this competitive market, understand the need to embrace change and continuous improvement. More than ever, leaders will need to master the skill of “Lead with Listening.” The success of your business will depend on it!

Your most important Assets aren’t your clients; It’s your Employees!

Many companies invest heavily to improve the customer experience but sideline employees who are responsible for delivering that experience. What some organizations forget is that their employees are their first and most important customers (internal). When employees are treated as “second class citizens”, it results in decreased employee morale. Your employees are your greatest brand advocates. Business success starts with the employee experience. You can’t expect stellar customer service from employees who feel distrusted and discounted.

When employees are happy (feel valued and respected), they will create remarkable experiences for your external customers.

The employee experience is influenced by three factors:

  1. The physical environment in which an employee works.
  2. The support and tools an employer provides.
  3. How an employer takes an interest in the well-being and success of employees.

Here’s an example.

A retail store stated their employees were the “heart of the business.” The retail area was clean and well-stocked. Aisles were wide and well-marked with bright signage. Even the parking lot sparkled – there was rarely any litter seen in customer parking areas. Customers were impressed. Employee space was an entirely different matter. Stock rooms were cluttered and dark. Staff locker rooms were poorly lighted and poorly maintained. The break room was bleak, with old, uncomfortable furniture, and trash bins overflowed. Even the vending machines were inadequately stocked with only junk food.

The message was clear – the company cares more about customers and less about employees.

“You can’t be the best place to buy, if you’re not the best place to work” -Fred Reichheld

In order to remain strong in an industry, employees have to be kept happy. Employees who have been pushed to the point where they no longer care, will not go the extra mile. They will not take the initiative to solve problems. They will end up treating customers the same way you treat them. Happy employees are always willing to do more, they will go to great lengths to help the company grow. Charity begins at home. If you want to get the best out of your employees – Take care of them!

To your continued success cheers

A young man went to seek an important position at a large printing company. He passed the initial interview and was going to meet the director for the final interview. The director saw his resume, it was excellent. And asked,’

“Have you received a scholarship for school?” The boy replied, “No”.
‘It was your father who paid for your studies? ” Yes.’ He replied.
‘Where does your father work? ‘ ‘My father is a Blacksmith’

The Director asked the young man to show him his hands.
The young man showed a pair of hands soft and perfect.
‘Have you ever helped your parents at their job? ‘
‘Never, my parents always wanted me to study and read more books. Besides, he can do the job better than me.

The director said:
‘I have got a request: When you go home today, go and wash the hands of your father and then come see me tomorrow morning.’

The young man felt his chance to get the job was high.

When he returned to his house he asked his father if he would allow him to wash his hands.

His father felt strange, happy, but with mixed feelings and showed his hands to his son. The young man washed his hands, little by little. It was the first time that he noticed his father’s hands were wrinkled and they had so many scars. Some bruises were so painful that his skin shuddered when he touched them.

This was the first time that the young man recognized what it meant for this pair of hands to work every day to be able to pay for his studies. The bruises on the hands were the price that his father payed for his education, his school activities and his future.

After cleaning his father’s hands the young man stood in silence and began to tidy and clean up the workshop. That night, father and son talked for a long time.

The next morning, the young man went to the office of the director.
The Director noticed the tears in the eyes of the young man when He asked him,

‘Can you tell me what you did and what you learned yesterday at your house?’
The boy replied: ‘I washed my father’s hands and when I finished I stayed and cleaned his workshop.’

‘Now I know what it is to appreciate and recognize that without my parents, I would not be who I am today. By helping my father I now realize how difficult and hard it is to do something on my own. I have come to appreciate the importance and the value in helping my family.

The director said, “This is what I look for in my people. I want to hire someone who can appreciate the help of others, a person who knows the hardship others go through to accomplish things, and a person who realizes that money is not his only goal in life”.

‘You are hired’.

A child that has been coddled, protected and given everything he or she wants, develops a mentality of “I have the right” and will always put himself or herself first, ignoring the efforts of parents, family and friends. If we are this type of protective parent are we really showing love or are we helping to destroy our children?

You can give your child their own room in a big house, good food, a computer, tablet, cell phone, and a big screen TV, but when you’re washing the floor or painting a wall, children need to experience that too.

After eating, have them wash the dishes with their brothers and sisters, let them fold laundry or cook with you, pull weeds or mow the lawn. You are not doing this because you are poor and can’t afford help. You are doing this because you love them and want them to understand certain things about life.

Children need to learn to appreciate the amount of effort it takes to do a job right. They need to experience the difficulties in life that people must overcome to be successful and they must learn about failure to be able to succeed.

Children must also learn how to work and play with others and that they will not always win, but they can always work harder to reach their goals. If they’ve done their best, then they can take pride in all the effort they put forth.

Life is about giving and serving and these qualities are taught in our homes.

_A little boy went to his old grandpa 👴🏻 and asked, *”What’s the value of life?”*_
The grandpa gave him one stone and said, *”Find out the value of this stone, but don’t sell it.”*_ 💎 The boy took the stone to an Orange Seller and asked him what its cost would be._

_The Orange Seller saw the shiny stone and said, “You can take 12 oranges and give me the stone.” The boy apologized and said that the grandpa has asked him not to sell it._

He went ahead and found a vegetable seller. “What could be the value of this stone?”* he asked the vegetable seller._ The seller saw the shiny stone and said, “Take one sack of potatoes and give me the stone.” The boy again apologized and said he can’t sell it._

_Further ahead, he went into a jewellery shop and asked the value of the stone. The jeweler saw the stone under a lens and said, “I’ll give you 1 million for this stone.” When the boy shook his head, the jeweler said, *”Alright, alright, take 2 24karat gold necklaces, but give me the stone.” The boy explained that he can’t sell the stone._

_Further ahead, the boy saw a precious stone’s shop and asked the seller the value of this stone. When the precious stone’s seller saw the big ruby, he lay down a red cloth and put the ruby on it.Then he walked in circles around the ruby and bent down and touched his head in front of the ruby. *”From where did you bring this priceless ruby from?”* he asked.

“Even if I sell the whole world, and my life, I won’t be able to purchase this PRICELESS STONE.” Stunned and confused, the boy returned to the grandpa and told him what had happened._

“Now tell me what is the value of life, grandpa?”*_

Grandpa said, “The answer you got from the Orange Seller, the Vegetable Seller, the Jeweler & the Precious Stone’s Seller explain the value of our life…*_

You may be a precious stone, even priceless, but, people will value you based on their financial status, their level of information, their belief in you, their motive behind entertaining you, their ambition, and their risk taking ability.

But everybody has a diamond inside him, and we can choose to surround ourselves with people that see our value and see the diamond inside of us, we can choose to put ourselves in a market or in a precious stones store, and also you can choose to see the value of other people, you can help other people to see the diamond inside of them, choose the people you surround yourself wisely, and then you can make all the difference in your life.

But don’t fear, you will surely find someone who will discern your true value.”_

_I watched a local football match in a school playing ground. 🥅 As I sat down, I asked one of the boys what the score was. With a smile, he replied; *”They are leading us with 3″!*_

_And I said, *REALLY!!* I have to say you don’t look discouraged._
“Discouraged?” the boy asked with a puzzled look… Why should I be discouraged when the referee has not blown the final whistle? I have confidence in the team and the managers; We shall definitely overcome!

_Truly, the match ended *5-4* in favor of the boy’s team! He waved at me gently, with a beautiful smile 😇 as he left; I was amazed, mouth wide open; *Such confidence; Such beautiful faith.*_

As I got back home that night, his question kept coming back to me: *”Why should I be discouraged when the referee has not blown the final whistle?”

Life is like a game. Why should you be discouraged when the Almighty God is your manager? Why should you be discouraged, when there’s still life? Why should you be discouraged when your final whistle has not blown? The truth is that many people blow the final whistle themselves; But as long as there is life, nothing is impossible and it is never too late for you._

Half time is not full time and *HIS* calendar for your life is not man’s calendar. Don’t blow the whistle yourself._

🌤 *Good Morning* ⛱

_Baby giraffes 🦒 never goes to school. But they learn a very important lesson rather early in life. A lesson that all of us would do well to remember._

_The birth of a baby giraffe is quite an earth-shaking event._

_The baby falls from its mother’s womb, some eight feet above the ground. It shrivels up and lies still, too weak to move. The mother giraffe lovingly lowers her neck to smooch the baby giraffe. And then something unbelievable happens. She lifts her long leg and kicks the baby giraffe, sending it flying up in the air and tumbling down on the ground._

_As the baby lies curled up, the mother kicks the baby again and again until the baby giraffe, still trembling and tired, pushes its limbs and for the first time learns to stand on its feet._

_Happy to see the baby standing on its own feet, the mother giraffe comes over and gives it yet another kick. The baby giraffe falls one more time, but now quickly recovers and stands up._

_Mama Giraffe is delighted. She knows that her baby has learnt an important lesson:_

_*Never mind how hard you fall, always remember to pick yourself up and get back on your feet.*_

_Why does the mother giraffe do this? She knows that lions and leopards love giraffe meat._

_So unless the baby giraffe quickly learns to stand and run with the pack, it will have no chance of survival._

_Most of us though are not quite as fortunate as baby giraffes. No one teaches us to stand up every time we fall._

When we fail, when we are down, we just give up. No one kicks us out of our comfort zone to remind us that to survive and succeed, we need to learn to get back on our feet._

_This message is to say: *no matter how hard you have fallen, no matter how deep the pain, you may even get bruised sometimes, but, dust everything off and start again. Its a brand new day full of opportunities to make you stronger and better.*_

_Blessed day, Get up…, Hustle hard…, Stand up… GOD BLESS YOU_

🌤 *Good Morning* ⛱

_It was evening time 🌥 and a man was walking home with his son._

_They were crossing the street when his wallet 👝 dropped. While he stopped to pick it, the little boy ran 🏃‍♂ across the street._

_A car 🚘 that was coming knocked the little boy down but instead of stopping the driver sped off. The father stood there shouting at the driver and screaming at him to stop and strangely when that failed he started chasing after the car. He stopped a motor bike 🛵 and got on it knowing the car would have to stop by all means at the police barrier which was ahead. He urged the motorcycle rider to speed up and to catch up with the car._

_Truly they met up with the driver at the police barrier, where the driver had stopped and gone in to the small office to report himself. The father came into the office and immediately held the driver by neck and started slapping him before the police could hold him._

_The driver was just pleading and saying he was sorry and that he did not see the little boy and he was afraid that people around may lynch him and that is why he had sped off to the police._

_The police asked the father where the little boy was and the father told them he was at the accident site. The police asked if the little boy had died instantly and the father said *he did not know.* The police personnel were shocked that the father had thought it was more important to catch a culprit than to see to the life of the son. They got back in the driver’s car and drove off to the accident site but the boy was not there._

_Some people around there said a car had picked up the boy and sent him towards the hospital._

_At the hospital 🏥 the doctors examined the little boy and did all they could and at the end they declared that had the boy been brought a little bit earlier he could have lived._

_The question that goes through my mind 🤔 is:_
_*Who killed the little boy?*_

_Many of us in situations and circumstances of life chase after judgment, vengeance and condemnation instead of salvation and restoration._

Many have lost precious things including their very own souls because they sought vengeance for crimes and evils done to them instead of pursuing the purpose of God for their lives and leaving all else to God._

_Don’t take it on yourself to repay a wrong. Trust the LORD and he will make it right._

_Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” *Romans 12:19*_

_One night, just before the shopkeeper 🤷🏽‍♂ closed for the day, a dog 🐕 came into the shop, having a bag in its mouth. The bag had a list of items to be bought and money so the shopkeeper took the money and kept the items in the bag._

_Immediately, the dog 🐶 picked up the bag of items and left. The shopkeeper was surprised and went behind the dog to see who the owner was. The dog waited at the bus stop. After sometime, a bus 🚎 came and the dog got into the bus. As soon as the conductor came, it moved forward to show his neck belt which had money and the address as well. The conductor took the money and put the ticket in his neck belt again._

_When it reached the destination, the dog 🐶 went to the front and wagged his tail indicating that he wanted to get down, the moment the bus stopped, it got down. The shopkeeper was still following it. The dog knocked on the door of a house with its legs. Its owner came from inside and beat it with a stick._

_The shocked shopkeeper 🤷🏽‍♂ asked him *”Why are you beating the dog?”,* to which the owner replied, *”he disturbed my sleep. It could have taken the keys with it.”*_

_This is the truth of life. There is no end to the expectations people have from you. The moment you go wrong, they start pointing at our mistakes._

_All the good done in the past are quickly forgotten. Any small mistake committed gets magnified. You can do 100 things for people but once you do a little mistake they forget all that you have done for them. They capitalize on that your *little mistake* to hold it against you whereas they themselves ain’t perfect._

_The owner of the dog had no idea of what his dog went through to get those stuffs yet instead of appreciation it, got beating._

_*Most people have no idea of what you have gone through in life to make them happy or please them but at the end of it all, instead of them appreciating you or complement you they end up looking for faults and mistakes from you just to discredit you. This is the kind of society we live in…*_
